Kura Reo Pakihi is a unique, marae-based programme designed to support accounting and business professionals to learn the Māori language and cultural customs (te reo Māori me ngā tikanga) for use in the workplace. The programme is refreshed every year. Kura Reo Pakihi has been an annual event since 2019 and is one of the premier events on the business calendar, so don't miss out!

The programme is open to all levels from early beginners to fluent speakers (note - this year the early beginner class will be a progression of the previous programme but will still be below 'beginner').

Kura Reo Pakihi is held in a marae setting to enhance the learning experience. Kura Reo Pakihi utilises highly regarded, experienced, professional tutors, who have a diverse range of expertise across the Māori language and Māori cultural customs and activities.

Kura Reo Pakihi 2024 has six key outcomes:
i. Provide a safe and enjoyable learning environment
ii. Provide an opportunity for networking in a non-competitive environment
iii. Provide an industry forum to discuss topical issues about Māori business
iv. Attendees learn to apply te reo Māori in the business workplace
v. Attendees learn a waiata ā-ringa (action song) for use in the workplace (newly composed for Kura Reo Pakihi 2023)
vi. Attendees learn a mihi structure for use in the workplace

Kura Reo Pakihi 2023 qualifies for 13 accounting CPD hours (confirmed by CAANZ). The Kura Reo Pakihi programme includes structured lessons as well as additional unstructured learning hours through the experience of learning on a marae - starting from when you are welcomed onto the marae in a pōhiri.

Registration includes all meals, as well as overnight accommodation at Tangatarua marae, Toi Ohomai campus. Note - in the event of restrictions implemented by Toi Ohomai in relation to staying overnight in the marae, due to circumstances such as COVID-19, attendees will be required to arrange their own accommodation, and no discount in registration price will be offered.

Who should attend:
Anyone working in the accounting and business community who wants to broaden their knowledge of the Māori language and cultural customs (te reo Māori me ngā tikanga).
